NEW YORK (Reuters) -
CBS Corp has been talking with Time
Warner about a deal to outsource certain news operations to
CNN, a move that would help it cut costs, the New York Times
reported online, citing two executives briefed on the matter.
While CNN has talked with ABC News and CBS News on and off
in the past decade about joint ventures, discussions with CBS
were restarted recently and gathered momentum, the NY Times
said, quoting those sources.
The talks included topics like cutting CBS's news gathering
capacity, while retaining on-screen personalities like Katie
Couric and paying CNN a fee to buy its news feeds, the NY Times
said, quoting the two sources.
According to those sources, another possibility would be
for CBS to retain its correspondents in some regions but pair
them up with CNN teams, the report said.
No deal was imminent, the report added, citing the sources.
Recently, CNN and CBS also talked about sharing their
resources in Baghdad but the discussions did not materialize
into a deal, the Times said, citing two people familiar with
the talks.
CBS and Time Warner were not immediately available for
comment.
