AuctionPal announced this week that visitors to the site can donate unused goods. The company will sell the goods and donate the proceeds to charities helping victims of the cyclone in Myanmar and the earthquake in China.
"The goal of our fund-raising offering is to make donating possible for everyone," AuctionPal CEO Maureen Ellenberger said in a statement. "Even if you can't donate cash, we are providing an alternative way to join the fund-raising efforts in support of the victims of the natural disasters in Myanmar and China."
Site visitors sign up through a new donation page and describe the items they are giving. They upload photos of the goods and receive packing materials once the items have sold on eBay or Amazon. DHL will pick up the packages, and the proceeds will go directly to charities.
Participants can donate gadgets, electronics, clothing, accessories, jewelry, sporting equipment, collectibles, and art valued at $50 or more. Eighty-five percent of the proceeds will go to Save the Children, while 15% will cover operational costs, including listing fees, AuctionPal said.
There is no fee for participation. AuctionPal provides expertise on professional shipping, fraud protection, and best practices for online sellers.
